Proposed New Rules for 360 Wingless Sprints

Richard Basden of RJB Engines and one of the founders of the new Central State Racing Association wants to add the following rule changes in order to keep down the cost of our racing:

• Make Roller Cams legal and Valve lift .550 maximum at valve
• The valve lift is easy to check.
• This rule change to allow roller cams would, over the years, lower the overall cost for the racer. Cam and Lifters start at $385.
• Regular Flat Tappet Cam and Lifters wear out faster and cost as much as $300. Some of these can have a valve lift of .570 to .590.
• There are some cam, valve and lifter set on the market that can cost from $570 to $590.
• There is currently a Flat Tappet Cam and Lifter set that cost $1200 or more and Rockers that cost $1000 that will allow .675 lift and are not reliable. These cam combinations are currently used in Cup Racing and were used in Top Fuel Dragsters.

Proposed Cylinder Head Rule

• All Head types must be factory production port design. No raised, straight or filled runners are allowed.
• Chevy 23 degree head + or – 2 degrees valve angle is allowed.
• Ford and Chrysler factory valve angle + or – 2 degrees is allowed.

Richard was one of the creators of the Grass Valley 360 Sprint Car class. He was heavily involved in the development of the class rules which were designed to make the new class an affordable sprint car class.

One of the first rules was to limit the Injector Butterfly to 2 3/16 and to allow only aftermarket stock Chevy designed aluminum heads. The track promoters did not enforce these rules and the class became very expensive.
